Zoom and internal links support

The Zoom feature and internal links in PowerPoint help make your presentations more dynamic and interactive. By allowing smooth navigation between slides, sections, or key points, they create a visually engaging experience for your audience. Whether you want to jump to specific slides or offer an overview of your content, the links enable you to craft non-linear presentations with ease. This guide will walk you through how to use Zoom and internal links effectively with the SlideHub platform.

Watch the tutorial video on how to set up your placeholders

These links can be set up to jump to specific slides or external content like websites and documents. At SlideHub we refer to links that go to a specific slide within your presentation as internal links.

What it the Zoom feature within PowerPoint?

The Zoom feature in PowerPoint lets you add zoom links to your slides, allowing quick transitions between different parts of your presentation. PowerPoint offers three types of Zoom options:

Summary Zoom (not compatible with SlideHub due to technical limitations): This creates a slide that acts as a navigation hub, allowing you to quickly jump between different sections or slides. It’s great for presentations where you want to give a big-picture view or offer flexibility in navigating topics.

Please note that due to technical constraints, the Summary Zoom feature is not supported on our platform. If your file includes a Summary Zoom slide, it will not be uploaded correctly during validation, which means you won't be able to use it, but the rest of your presentation will be successfully uploaded. We recommend using Section or Slide zooms as an alternative to the Summary Zoom

Slide Zoom: This zooms in on specific slides within your presentation. You can use it to quickly jump to important slides without following a linear path.

In some cases, you might want to change the slide previews or thumbnails to a different image or visual. However, our platform cannot retain these changes, and the thumbnail will revert to the default slide preview. As a workaround, you can:

link to the slide with an internal link - Instead of using the Zoom feature, you can also just use the visual or text and create an internal link in PowerPoint that jumps to a specific slide within the same presentation:
1.) Select the Text or Object: Click on the text, shape, or image you want to turn into a link.
2.) Insert Hyperlink: Go to the Insert tab, click on Link (or press Ctrl + K).
3.) Link to Slide: In the Insert Hyperlink dialog box, under Link to, select Place in This Document.
4.) Choose Destination Slide: A list of all slides in the presentation will appear. Select the slide you want to link to, then click OK.

use the Section Zoom feature instead, which allows you to keep the new image or visual. Create a Section Zoom for each slide you want to link to. (Note. if you download a slide with Section Zoom links you won’t be able click the link to access the correct linked slide in the library - For more info, see section: How does SlideHub handle broken internal / zoom link?)

Section Zoom: With Section Zoom, you can move between different sections of your presentation. This is useful for breaking down long presentations into manageable chunks, making it easier for both you and your audience to navigate content.

When you use Section zooms you won’t be able to see which slide the link is linked to in the platform

When you upload:

Start uploading your file as normal - Go to Manage view —> click on Add New —> Upload file

If your presentation contains internal or Zoom links, select Add as a Presentation to ensure these links function correctly

After uploading, choose whether to keep the file as a full presentation or to make specific (or all) slides available as standalone slides.

If you download the full presentation, all link functions will work normally. However, if you download only a slide containing internal or Zoom links, a preview of the originally linked slide will be displayed. You can also click this preview to navigate to the linked slide in the library, provided it’s available, and the link wasn’t a Section Zoom link.

When you want to update a presentation that contains internal links:

You should update the entire presentation directly in PowerPoint using the SlideHub add-in - To do so, click the red Update button under the clip icon (which indicate you are making changes to the full presentation, not just individual slides) within the PowerPoint add-in

or

You should replace the whole presentation - To replace the entire presentation, go to Manage View, locate the presentation you want to update, click the gear icon to access the presentation settings, and select Replace slides

Zoom transition and duration:

Due to some limitations, when a file containing Zoom links is uploaded to the library, the platform will automatically reapply the Zoom transition even if it was removed by the client. However, to maintain the appearance of no transition, the platform adjusts the duration to 0.01 seconds, creating an effect nearly identical to having no Zoom transition at all

SlideHub offers a better approach to handling broken links, providing more information than standard PowerPoint when managing internally linked slides.

When you copy and paste a slide with linked elements into another file, PowerPoint either:
Keeps the links but connects them to unrelated slides.
Displays the links as broken without providing further details about the original slide.

If the slides linked are part of the SlideHub library, you get some additional benefits when you insert a slide with the Zoom or internal link in it:

The preview image of the originally linked slide is retained, even if the slide is separate, and

You can click the link to access the correct linked slide in the library, if available.

The slide or link you clicked is linked to a slide on the SlideHub platform. However, you either don't have access or the slide has been removed. The most likely reasons are:

- You’re not logged in. Please  log in
- You’re not a SlideHub client. Contact  Customer Success
- The slide no longer exists, or you lack the necessary permissions to view it
- The slide was linked with the Section Zoom
- When adding the slide to SlideHub, the destination slide was excluded from the file submission and thus cannot be linked to
